The MOPI children have worked on a new learning node that is all about art. In this node, entitled SCULPTURE & CULTURE, we will work on volume, creating a small/large exhibition of macrosculptures embodying the spirit of MOPI.
General learning objectives:
1. Experience the expressive possibilities of visual language.
2. Recognise the different uses and main differences between
painting and sculpture.
3. Understand the concept of volume as a means of artistic expression.
4. Recognise the main parts of the human body.
5. Use your own body as a means of communication.
6. Learn the features of materials such as textures, strength and weight.
Nodes are a methodological proposal based on project-based work. Children become the builders of their own learning through play, research and relationships with classmates, exploring according to their interests. They make the decisions and seek their own strategies to find solutions to the challenges and situations they encounter, while the adult acts as a guide. Work is conducted in inter-society communities to solve major and relevant challenges, thus promoting social relations and responding to the different maturity rates.
The nodes follow this teaching sequence:
Prompt. A “living sculpture” will visit us and introduce us to the world of art.
Ask. What is a sculpture? How can it be created? What materials can it be made of? How is it different from a painting?
Investigate. We will find and analyse sculptures in our surroundings to learn how sculptors work. Based on this research we will enhance our creativity and practice with our bodies.
Apply. In the node community, we will design and plan a sculpture proposal which represents us as a group.
Communicate. Finally, all these proposals will be put together and the macro sculpture of the MOPI community will be crafted.
Reflect. Has art enabled us to express emotions and feelings? How did we feel? Creating as a team, collectively, has helped us further grow our bond with the MOPI community.
The art of SCULPTURE & CULTURE!
