The 8th March, International Women's Day, gives us a new opportunity to mobilise for equality and for a society free of discrimination. At school we work for change and change is education.
At all ages of the school we have held a variety of activities:
In Infants we began the day working on the story Extraordinary Women, and we have been reflecting on it. In the Primary Initial Cycle we have looked at Women's Day and its importance, we have reflected on what important gifts we have in our lives (mothers, sisters, friends, grandmothers…) and what beautiful gestures they make for us. Each pupil brought a photograph of a woman who is important to them, and we made a big shared mural.
The children in the Middle Primary School have learned about some of the women who have changed history (e.g. Malala Yousafzai, Amelia Earhart, Jane Goodall, etc.). We reflected on how their actions have helped to make the world a better place and played Who's Who?with information from their lives.
At the start of the day in 5th and 6th Year Primary we also dedicated the day to a reflection and debate on Women's Day. In 1st Year Lower Secondary we talked about equality and women in science and in 2nd Year Lower Secondary we delved into the situation of women in other countries.
In 3rd and 4th Year Lower Secondary we began the day with a shared reflection and the tutors worked on Women's Day using various resources. Lastly, the boys and girls in 1st Year Upper Secondary enjoyed the talk Women in science and engineering.
Under the slogan Women and Sport, which was proposed by the European Parliament for 2024, the EPAS created their own ribbon and shared it with other Ambassador Schools.
This picture shows our ribbon and those of the other schools that have taken part in this campaign. You are invited to take a few minutes to read the text that accompanies the ribbons, and to view the ribbons of the different schools.
We especially thank the students Lucia Sérvole, Lucia Iglesias, Victoria Abad and Aleix Fune, from 4th Year Upper Secondary for their collaboration.
