All of Year 3 Primary, students and educators alike, are in the GREENPIN team.
We have an assignment from the school's head teacher, Josep Maria Ramón, and we take it very seriously. Care for our Common Home is the responsibility of everyone who lives on the planet. So we in the GREENPIN team are doing little things such as our sustainable wrapping campaign to raise awareness and improve our habits to be more sustainable, getting closer to zero waste and encouraging more mindful consumption while at the same time making healthier breakfasts.
We are also striving to spread this message far and wide and ensure that Sant Ignasi's educators and families become agents of change.
Educators and families of Sant Ignasi, can you help us?
In October, we made an initial assessment by noting down on three non-consecutive days the quantity and types of wrappers we bring with our breakfast. Here's the poster with the results.
Afterwards, each class looked at the results, discussed them, thought about what we could improve and came up with things we can do to achieve this.
Based on the ideas gathered from the classes, we drew up an action plan with the following goals:
To help meet the challenges we've set, each child has been given a boc'n'roll, but most importantly we need your help as families! Here are some ideas:
- Cut down on or stop buying products which are individually wrapped or in small packages.
- Make varied and healthy breakfasts. Steer clear of pre-packed pastries which aren't good for us and often come in non-recyclable wrappers. Remember: Friday is fruit day! You should always bring some fruit, vegetables or nuts. If you like, you can also top it off with other kinds of food.
- Use reusable wrappings: lunchboxes, storage containers, boc'n'rolls, etc. Never use aluminium foil!
- Bring a cloth napkin if you think you need one.
- At school, we drink water from our reusable bottles. If we want to bring milk or fresh juice, it could be in another reusable bottle.
We are now rechecking our wrappers to see whether our habits have improved.
We’ll share the results with educators and families and are confident we’ll easily beat our targets!
