We celebrate School Day of Non-violence and Peace

30 January is the Day of Non-violence and Peace. At Sant Ignasi we celebrate it with several symbolic events. We are celebrating this day with the goal of identifying attitudes and actions that generate peace, to discover it through small daily gestures and ways of relating to others and helping our students understand that we can all bring peace to our surroundings if we commit ourselves to it.

In Early Childhood, for example, we sang the "Song of Peace" and went out into the playground with the placards we had made. A few days earlier and as part of the Human and Pastoral Education programme for the stage, we explored the idea of peace through a number of stories and activities.

In Initial Primary Years, over the course of the week we have looked at this topic in four activities: the weekly assembly, the Bon Dia spaces, the Manresa space and a joint event in which we read the manifesto for Peace and sang the song "We want Peace".

In 5th and 6th NEI, we have done various activities in the Tutorial and Take your Time spaces to consider how we can promote a culture of peace in our surroundings. At the start of the day we remembered the thirty or so areas of the world where there are conflicts and wars and read several prayers for peace.

In 3rd and 4th TQE, the junior ambassadors have created and facilitated an activity on Peace in Europe for Lower Secondary classes.

In Upper Secondary, students have talked about peace. Students in the SDG subject have made a mural in which the rest of their classmates answer some questions: What gives you peace? What is peace to you? Who is / Where do you find your peace? What do you do to bring peace to those around you? Why is peace important?

Educating in and for tolerance, solidarity, harmony, respect for human rights, non-violence and peace are subjects that we will be working on in the classroom; we feel compelled to build and advocate for peace, and to work towards understanding between people from different backgrounds and with different ways of thinking.

The School Day of Non-violence and Peace enables us to work and raise awareness among our students about the importance of learning to live together and work for Peace.
