We celebrated the Diada de Sant Jordi

A day brimming with books and roses, in the most diverse formats, which highlights the creativity of our pupils and fosters culture and traditions.

To mark the Diada de Sant Jordi, Early Childhood pupils have had a week packed with cultural, creative and fun activities in which they have explored the legend and tradition of this much-loved festival.

To celebrate the Diada, all Early Childhood pupils came dressed as characters from the legend of Sant Jordi and performed the play in class. They have also made bookmarks and had a great time at a storytelling workshop run by TQE students. On Thursday, Nursery 2 and MOPI children will watch a performance of the play El Patufet, while MOPIpupils will welcome illustrator Roser Argemí who will describe and draw the characters from her book La llegenda de Sant Jordi backed by live music. Finally, on Friday Early Childhood Education Higher Level Training Programme students are to perform a play about the legend for Nursery and MOPI3 children.

In Initial Primary, PIN1 children have shared the stories they have crafted with MOPI5 pupils and together with PIN2 they have taken part in Sant Jordi-related language corners and reading support activities with Year 6 NEI pupils. PIN2 students also had the chance to see the play Georgina and the Dragon performed by Ipa Productions. In PIN3 and PIN4, workshops have been run to decorate classrooms and corridors, while in PIN4 families have got involved in reading stories in English to the pupils. All PIN years have also taken part in the Floral Games which have included literary and artistic prizes. The day was rounded off with a performance of "The Legend of Sant Jordi" by Intermediate Level teachers.

Year 5 and 6 students kicked off the celebrations with the Floral Games in the Assembly Hall featuring prizes for poetry, storytelling and visual expression. They have also taken part in the 21st Amigant Library Bookmark Competition on the theme of Springtime among Books. Over the course of the week, they have worked on intertwined stories, visual poetry and literature recommendations and also decorated the corridors. In Year 1 they have done book presentations and held workshops on Sant Jordi-related activities while in Year 2 they have watched the video Me gusta leer. Both year groups have produced corridor decorations, literary recommendations and collaborative tales.

TQE-BATX. also celebrated the day with the Floral Games and the literary competition designed to foster literary creation in Catalan and Spanish in Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary. TQE students have additionally decorated the corridors and showcased new books in Catalan, a selection of artistically decorated poems in Spanish and the winning collage poems. Upper Secondary students have recommended books and written short reviews which they have shared on the literature wall they have built for their corridors.
