"Consultant for a Day" by Accenture

In 2nd year Upper Secondary, all students are introduced to the reality of the world of work through visits to a range of companies and organisations. These visits help them to discover and cement their vocations and, of course, to make important decisions that will shape their career path.

This time round, a group of students visited Accenture Defense Group, a multinational corporation engaged in providing consulting and technology services.

Our students visited Accenture's facilities, did The Wallet Project and heard about the various markets/businesses in which Accenture operates at home and abroad.

Fortune magazine included Accenture in its list of the 500 biggest companies in terms of revenue, and it has upwards of 244,000 employees across 120 countries. It provides document management services, information technology systems software and business process improvement strategies to governments, government suppliers, corporations and transnational organisations such as the European Space Agency.

I had the chance to visit Accenture on the course trip and it was one of the best school experiences. I learned about the consultancy business, which until then I'd known nothing about, and took part in a workshop where we briefly became consultants.

Accenture also showed us the huge number of international markets in which it operates and the wide range of projects it leads. Its impact spans numerous sectors from technology innovation and advertising campaigns to sustainability strategies and non-profit projects. Plus I saw at first hand how they work as a team together with the critical importance of analytical thinking and adaptability in this area.

It was a great discovery for me and certainly a career option which I will consider from now on.
