Second Year as an Ambassador School of the European Parliament

It is truly an educational opportunity for our students.

Last year, Sant Ignasi became a European Parliament Ambassador School (EPAS). Only three schools in Barcelona are part of this prestigious project. It is a twice-yearly educational initiative that aims to promote European awareness and civic participation among young people. Through this program, students have the opportunity to learn more about the European Union (EU), its institutions, European values, and the rights of EU citizens. Additionally, students act as ‘ambassadors’ of this knowledge within our school community.

This program is also linked to the ERASMUS+ project, which we have been a part of for years, promoting mobility and learning among young Europeans. The EPAS can enhance this program by offering students opportunities to study and live in other EU countries, thereby deepening their understanding and appreciation of European cultural diversity. Additionally, the EPAS focuses on various themes such as sustainability, diversity, and cultural appreciation, which can be integrated into the numerous school mobility projects we conduct with other European schools.

At Sant Ignasi, we also promote the concept of Global Citizenship as part of the EPAS. This perspective reminds us that we live in an interconnected world and that global issues affect us all. Consequently, our students are not only better prepared to understand the EU, but also develop a deeper understanding of global challenges and the importance of international cooperation.

The activities we carry out as an Ambassador School for the European Parliament include:

  • Setting up an Infopointin the school: We establish an info-point where we regularly update and promote EU-related information on relevant topics.
  • Working with materials in the classroom: We organize classroom sessions and activities for students to learn about the EU and its institutions; we use a variety of materials in languages such as Catalan, Spanish, English, French, and German.
  • Celebrating Europe Day: We share and celebrate European diversity and values with special activities on Europe Day.
  • Cross-curricular cooperation with other schools: We collaborate with other schools to enrich students’ learning and understanding of the EU.
  • Workshops and press conferences with MEPs: We have the opportunity to organize or participate in workshops and press conferences with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to discuss European issues or their work in various committees, based on the suggestions and interests of the Junior Ambassadors.
  • Visit to the European Parliament Delegation in Barcelona: We provide students with the opportunity to visit the European Parliament Delegation in Barcelona and learn about its work.
  • Celebration of several international days: We celebrate various international days with activities related to the EU and global citizenship.
  • Workshops on disinformation and fake news:We equip students with the tools to better understand news and information related to the EU.

This programme involves students from the school’s Lower Secondary, Upper Secondary, and Vocational programs. The teachers involved in the project are called ‘Senior Ambassadors’, and the students who are part of the project’s working committee are called ‘Junior Ambassadors’. Students who successfully complete their role as Junior Ambassadors will receive a certificate of recognition for their dedication and commitment to the project.

Beyond the Ambassadors, our activities as EPAS are cross-curricular, engaging students from different years in various ways.

We are delighted to offer our students this opportunity, which will undoubtedly help them develop their European awareness and knowledge, and open doors to other projects.
