The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) subject is an annual optional course of 4 hours per week in the second year of the Upper Secondary. The subject gives students an approach to the SDGs from an interdisciplinary perspective through analysing specific situations that may have local and global implications for sustainability (social, economic and environmental) and thereby contribute to achieving the implementation of UNESCO's Agenda 2030.
One of the aims of the subject is to make students jointly responsible for the planning and management of academic life and community life at the school, based on actively participating in various school projects. The purpose is for them to become conscious individuals, capable of having a positive impact on their immediate environment and also on the world.
This subject offers the 40 students who have chosen it the chance to take part in various committees: Gender, Sustainability, Social Development and Solidarity. The committees are organised by setting priorities and assigning the role of moderator, spokesperson and secretary to different members of the team. An agenda is drawn up, covering topics for which there was no time to deal with in the previous session or new topics proposed by the students. The moderator will be entrusted with commenting on the various items on the agenda, guiding the meeting and giving the floor. The secretary will be tasked with recording the minutes of the meeting at each session.
At the end of the meeting, the spokesperson will be in charge of informing the teacher who is responsible for the committee of the agreements that have been reached and the points to be worked on.
The students themselves will explain it to us:
The purpose of the SDG Social Development Committee is to foster a set of values that enable progress in the social sphere. In order to do this, within the school, we are entrusted with coordinatingtheUpper Secondary group in the various celebrations of a more recreational nature, such as the Upper Secondary Christmas Festival, which will be a success for thestage. We also have other functions such as raising awareness about social issues among the various classes, fostering inclusion and preparing various activities for International Day of Peace.
