On Saturday 29 March, the Polar CanSat team launched their mini-satellite using a rocket designed by the UPC's ESEIAAT team as part of the “CanSat” competition sponsored by the European Space Agency.
The device's launch and flight were a success, but unfortunately a failure in the communications system prevented it from receiving the data captured by the on-board sensors or the GPS positioning data, making its recovery unfeasible due to the strong winds around Lleida Airport on launch day.
Finally, the team presented their results at the UPC's School of Industrial, Aerospace and Audiovisual Engineering of Terrassa on Wednesday 2 April. Despite the system failure, they analysed the results of the preliminary tests and a proposal for a hot air balloon launch to complete their objectives.
The Polar CanSat team is to be congratulated for all their hard work and the final result of their project which has enabled them to build on and/or gain skills that are extremely useful in many areas in addition to technological processes.
Their research is now continuing independently of their involvement in this programme and will allow them to include the work they have done in their Research Project.
